Jim Rockel Memorial Service James Rockel Sr., a 35 year volunteer with the Cetronia and Woodlawn fire departments, was laid to rest on Monday, October 13th. Firefighters from South Whitehall and surrounding townships turned out to honor our fellow firefighter. 1st Responder article, more photos Here.
Woodlawn Summerfest The Woodlawn Social Club celebrated its 80th Anniversary on Saturday, August 16th. The fire department opened its doors to the public and gave tours of the trucks and demonstrations of a firefighters equipment. Denver Fire Department Seatbelt Procedure The Denver Fire Department has developed a procedure with regards to firefighters donning seat mounted SCBA along with a seatbelt. Firefighters have been injured and killed while responding to calls for assistance. A simple act of putting on your seatbelt can save you from injury or death. This video demonstrates Denver's answer to this problem. Dorney Park Fireworks On Friday, July 4th, South Whitehall stations 3, 11, and 32 provided coverage for the annual fireworks at Dorney Park. Each of the stations were posted throughout the park to make sure no brush fires were created by firework embers.
Hokendauqua Parade On Saturday, May 31st, 3291 participated in the annual Hokendauqua parade, and won 2nd place in the specialty apparatus category. Firefighters Kish, Fahringer, Steed, and Cincilla participated.
Jewish Day School Woodlawn firefighters were invited to a reading at the Jewish Day School on Thursday, May 1st. About 5 firefighters with Engine 3212 made an appearance for the reading. After the reading, a tour was given of 3212.
Spaghetti Dinner On Friday, April 18th, a Spaghetti dinner was held at the Woodlawn Social Club, to benefit FF Kish, who lost nursing school materials and medical aid equipment in a car fire the week prior. Approximately $1,000 was raised between the dinner, a donation boot, and a 50-50. Annual Banquet held The annual banquet was held on Saturday, March 29th. Congratulations to Specialist Kish, Who won the 2007 "Firefighter of the year award"
Bowl for the Brave Woodlawn Bowling Team won the 1st Annual Lehigh Valley "Bowl for the brave" held by Foundation 58.
Founded in April 2005 in memory of Hazleton City
Deputy Fire Chief Gabriel A. Mhley, Foundation 58 is a 501(c)3 nonprofit
organization dedicated to providing financial assistance to Fire Fighters,
Police Officers, and Emergency Medical Service Personnel who are battling
cancer.
Since it was established, Foundation 58 has given
out over $12,000 in grants to Fire Fighters and Police Officers in
Pennsylvania. Most recently, a $5,000 grant was made to a fire fighter in
northeastern PA.
On February 10, 2008 the Inaugural Bowling for the
Brave - Lehigh Valley event was held at AMF Parkway Lanes in Allentown. 20
teams consisting of 100 total bowlers competed for the coveted Heroes' Cup.
In the end, the Woodlawn Fire Department walked away as the first year
champions. The event was a success in it's first year raising over $2,000 for
Fire, Police, & EMS who are battling cancer.

Our team won the prize, totaling $500. At the last business meeting, it was decided to give $175 back to foundation 58 and $175 to the Wyatt Newhard fund. (a 3 year old boy from New Tripoli who has a rare form of cancer). The remainder will pay the entry fee for the next contest in Scranton, PA.
