
Command/Haz-Mat 3291
3291 is the HAZ-MAT unit and mobile command post for South Whitehall Township. It is second due to most calls within the township. The truck contains spill materials to contain a small to moderate hazardous incident. This includes spill booms, pads, pillows, oil socks, overpack containers, plugs, and a large amount of oil-dry and spreaders. A pneumatic transfer pump is also available on the truck to be used with the 2-6000 psi stored air cylinders. The unit also contains equipment for entry into a hazardous environment including splash suits, chemical suits, level B Hazardous materials suits, gas meters, chemical identification equipment, and other entry tools. Decontamination equipment is also carried on the truck to decontaminate initial entry teams.
3291 also serves as the command post for South Whitehall Township. It carries command and hazmat information on many local businesses, schools, and high occupancy structures. The command post is equipped with a computer with internet access, a printer, copier, and fax machine. There are also two separate radios for command and fireground operations.
The unit also carries assorted equipment for traditional fireground operations. Large and small hand tools are available for use. 6 SCBA’s are carried for the crew of the apparatus with a large amount of spare cylinders as well. Also gas operated saws, gas and electric ventilation fans, a little giant and attic ladder are carried.
3291 is also set up to handle a Rapid Intervention Team. The truck is outfitted with RIT equipment such as a buddy-breathing system, large area search bags, a stokes basket and long-board, and a manually operated Holmatro hydraulic cutting tool.
The vehicle also carries an Automated External Defibrillator and BLS equipment for first response calls.
