Fire Prevention is a very important public service that we provide. This years Open House/Fire Prevention Day, will be held at Station 32 on Monday, October 20th. 6:00pm till 9:00pm
Periodically we give tours of our station to schools and youth groups. During these tours we demonstrate some of the types of firefighting equipment and explain the roles our firefighters perform on the fire ground.

Children under the age of 5 are twice as likely to be killed in a house fire, so it is important that you take extra precautions with them. Children as young as 3 years old can be taught how to react when they hear a smoke detector alarm, and can follow a escape plan.
Home Sprinklers - More info coming soon... Smoke Detectors - Having working smoke detectors in your home can reduce your chances of dying in a house fire by 63%. A simple smoke detector can cost as little as $10. There are currently 2 types of smoke detector technology. For best protection, use a mix of both types in your home. Ionization - faster at detecting fast, flaming fires. Photoelectric - faster at detecting slow, smoldering fires. You can also purchase combo units, which have both types of sensors. Some important points
DO NOT DISABLE YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS - Use photoelectric or buy detectors with a button to silence annoying nuisance alarms. There have been several fire fatalities in the Lehigh Valley in recent years, sometimes multiple people are killed simply because the batteries were removed!!! CO Detectors - CO is a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. It is nicknamed "the silent killer", because you cannot see or smell it. If you cook or heat your home with fossil based fuels, such as wood, natural gas, or oil, you should have a CO detector on each floor. Test alarms monthly and change batteries yearly, as you would with smoke detectors. If you experience symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, headaches, dizziness, confusion and breathing difficulty, you may have CO poisoning.
